Why transparency needs a physical foundation
Everyone talks about transparency and that’s a good thing
Transparency has become a defining theme across industries. Consumers demand it, regulators enforce it, and brands actively communicate it. As a result, access to product-related information has never been easier. QR codes, databases and apps allow instant access to claims about origin, composition or sustainability.
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) represents the most explicit expression of this development. It creates a structured digital layer that accompanies products throughout their lifecycle.
Yet many transparency initiatives share a common limitation: they focus almost exclusively on the product as a digital object.
Products, however, are physical.
They are made of material.
